AMO, CNSS and mutuelle: are your home-care services reimbursed?
Read: 7 minUpdated: 2026-07-02
In short
In Morocco, certain prescribed home-care procedures — injections, dressings, infusions or a blood test — may be partially reimbursed through AMO (managed by the CNSS for private-sector employees) and, where applicable, topped up by a mutuelle. Reimbursement depends on your coverage, the prescription and the nature of the procedure. In Marrakech, SAMU Marrakech always gives you the itemised invoices your file needs — also useful for travellers who claim from their travel insurance on return.
AMO, CNSS, mutuelle: who does what?
Three concepts to separate. AMO (compulsory health insurance) is the base scheme that defines a basket of care reimbursable under national rules. The CNSS (National Social Security Fund) is the administering body for AMO for private-sector employees (civil servants come under a different administrator). The mutuelle is an optional complementary cover that can pay part of the remaining balance after the base reimbursement. Understanding this split is the first step to knowing where to send your claim in Marrakech.
Building your file: the documents to gather
To maximise your chances of reimbursement, gather: a medical prescription (essential for most reimbursable care such as injections, dressings or an at-home blood test), the itemised invoice we give you, your provider’s reimbursement form and, if requested, a care report. Submit your file within the deadline set by your fund. Always keep a copy of everything you submit and note your claim reference.
Travellers in Marrakech: the travel-insurance case
Marrakech welcomes many travellers and expats. If you need home nursing care, a consultation or a blood test during your stay, your travel insurance or premium bank card may provide reimbursement on your return. The process is simple: we give you a proper itemised invoice to attach to your claim to your insurer. Remember to report the claim promptly and keep all supporting documents (invoice, prescription, any report). We cannot guarantee reimbursement, but we make building the file easier for you.
Non-medical support: an important distinction
Beware of an essential distinction: non-medical support (patient care, elderly assistance, night-time presence), provided by our in-home patient care, is human support and generally does not qualify for AMO/CNSS reimbursement. Conversely, a prescribed medical procedure performed by a nurse may come within the scope of coverage. Clearly identifying the nature of the need saves you from wrong expectations and helps you prepare the right file. If in doubt, call us: we guide you to the right arrangement and the matching documents.
Frequently asked questions
Certain prescribed nursing procedures (injections, dressings, infusions) may be partially reimbursed through AMO, depending on your coverage and the nature of the procedure. The decision and rate are up to your provider (CNSS for private-sector employees), on presentation of a prescription and an itemised invoice.
